Dance of Youth (Thrust-Hang)

Blue Nude (Thrust-Swing)
UPDATE: 4-1-09:
I had been studying with Elizabeth M. Wetzig since 1993, when I met her through the Trager community. I began hosting workshops for her and later, we collaborated for about five years until 2005.
I held a workshop at my studio in Sept, 2002, which Susan Koenig, Association for Hanna Somatic Education (AHSE) President at the time, attended.
Here is a link to an article in the SomaTimes* (see EDIT below) newsletter by Ms. Koenig, entitled "The Coordination Patterns" (pages 9-11). This article is about Wetzig Coordination Patterns, which used the Rathbone Patterns as the basis of its theory (Rathbone's discovery is not addressed in this article). Give it a read and see if you can see why the above Picassos are labeled as such.
These three hang in my studio and help me to give a sense of the Patterns to my clients/students on a gross movement level. It helps quite a bit in explaining movement style and dynamics.
I have found Rathbone's research on relaxation to be of great use to me in my practice. Understanding how to access one's home pattern is essential knowledge towards developing a body's baseline tonicity, which is essential in balancing the body for appropriate maximal output without injury. What's important to note is that use of the patterns is integrated into teaching the pilates repertoire immediately.
More on Rathbone's Patterns and AIM coming soon.
EDIT 9-16-10 *The SomaTimes article is no longer available online. If you'd like a copy, email me.
